2010-03-03
Aaron Richnavski provided the gamewinner in Overtime as the Colonels won 4-3
The Colonels finished the season with 2 exciting wins against in state rival NKU in front of hundreds of excited fans!Immediately after starting Goaltender Ryan McNutt Stoned NKU's leading scorer on a breakaway chance in overtime, Aaron "Dudeman" Richnavsky took a perfect pass from Freshman Chris Heil the length of the ice and with brilliant stick work beat the NKU netminder Top-shelf! The team stormed the ice and sent the Senior Class of 3 off in style with a memorable win at home.
NKU came out strong scoring the first 2 goals in the first period but with only 2 seconds left, Junior Derek Rusin chased down a loose puck in the offensive zone and beat the goalie far side on a shot that couldn't have been better placed. Freshman J.W. Hanson evened the score with a power play goal on a nice slap shot from the point.
The colonels were able to build a lead in the third period but NKU answered with a goal of their own to send the game into overtime. Thanks to the strong goaltending of Ryan McNutt, the Colonels worked hard to creat the chance for their captain to seal the Victory for EKU.
Seniors Tony Theetge and Greg Fowler played very well and took a strong lead in celebrating with the team on the ice. Many thanks to them and Tyler Brown out on Injury for all of their dedication to the team over the last 4 years.
